Who Is Attorney Perry Morrison?

Perry Morrison grew up in Wilson, NC, graduated with a J.D. from the UNC School of Law in 1988, and returned to Wilson to practice law in 1989.

Morrison practiced with George Lennon at Monroe, Wyne, Atkins and Lennon, P.A., and then at Narron & Holdford, P.A., before founding Morrison Law Firm, P.L.L.C. in January 2004. The firm is located at 3713 Nash Street North, Suite 101, Wilson, NC 27896.

Morrison concentrates his practice in Social Security Disability, workers’ compensation, and personal injury law. The attorney also practices as a mediator and began representing veterans before the Veterans Administration in June 2008, when private attorneys were first permitted to do so.

Morrison represents injured workers and disability claimants across 16 Eastern North Carolina counties from his Wilson office.  With the advent of electronic communication, he was able to expand his practice statewide across North Carolina.

How Does Perry Morrison Approach a Workers’ Comp Case?

Perry Morrison represents claimants only. Morrison has never represented an employer or an insurance carrier in a Workers Compensation case — a boundary set at the start of his practice in 1989 and maintained for over 37 years. Morrison’s claimants-only practice means every strategy, every negotiation, and every hearing decision serves one interest: the injured worker.

Getting legal representation early protects an injured worker’s right to authorized treatment and full wage-replacement benefits. Morrison is direct with clients about the value of their workers’ comp cases from the first consultation and does not pressure clients into early settlements that serve the carrier’s timeline.

The attorney does not avoid requesting an NC Industrial Commission hearing when the carrier refuses a fair resolution. Eastern NC insurance carriers, claims adjusters, and Industrial Commission deputy commissioners have been the opposing parties in his cases for over three decades — that familiarity is a practical advantage at every stage of a claim.

Morrison has litigated against insurance companies for over 30 years. Morrison handles Form 33 hearings personally from filing through resolution and has successfully tried numerous jury trials involving catastrophic injuries.

How Long Has Perry Morrison Been Practicing Workers’ Comp Law in NC?

Perry Morrison has represented injured workers in North Carolina since 1989, with over 35 years of experience concentrating his practice in workers’ compensation law.

During that time, the attorney has handled over 3,000 workers’ compensation claims before the NC Industrial Commission and over 100 occupational disease cases involving workplace hearing loss from prolonged noise exposure alone.

Delaying a workers’ comp claim in NC gives insurers grounds to dispute the injury — Morrison advises clients to report workplace injuries in writing on the same day and contact his law firm at 252-243-1003 before giving any telephone statement to the insurance carrier.

Morrison has also practiced before the Social Security Administration since 2004, developing the disability practice alongside his workers’ compensation work.

Morrison is admitted to practice before the NC Supreme Court, all NC state courts, the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of North Carolina. He has been featured twice on the front page of NC Lawyers Weekly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I hire a workers’ comp attorney in North Carolina?

An injured worker should hire a workers’ comp attorney before giving any statement to an employer or carrier. Representation matters most when a carrier disputes the injury, delays authorized treatment, or pushes a premature settlement. Morrison has represented claimants only — never employers or insurers — in work injury claims since 1989.

What does a workers’ comp attorney do at an NC Industrial Commission hearing?

At an NC Industrial Commission hearing, a workers’ comp attorney presents medical evidence, cross-examines employer witnesses, argues compensability under Chapter 97 of the NC General Statutes, and advocates for the full wage-replacement and medical benefits the injured worker is entitled to receive.

How do I know if my workers’ comp attorney is actually fighting for me?

A workers’ comp attorney is fighting for a claimant when the attorney communicates regularly, explains carrier tactics plainly, and requests an NC Industrial Commission hearing rather than push a low settlement. Perry Morrison has tried numerous jury trials involving catastrophic injuries and handles every workers’ comp hearing personally.

Does Perry Morrison handle cases outside Wilson County?

Absolutely.  Perry Morrison represents injured workers and disability claimants across 16 Eastern North Carolina counties from his Wilson, NC, office, including Nash, Edgecombe, Pitt, Martin, Wayne, Johnston, Greene, Halifax, Northampton, Warren, Wake, Harnett, Cumberland, Sampson, and Vance.  With the advent of electronic communication, Morrison has recently expanded his work injury practice statewide throughout North Carolina.

How does Perry Morrison charge for his services?

Morrison Law Firm handles workers’ compensation and Social Security Disability cases on a contingency fee basis — no fee unless benefits are recovered. Workers’ comp fees are approved by the NC Industrial Commission, and they are generally 25% of the amount recovered.  Social Security fees are capped by federal law at 25% of past-due benefits, with a cap set by Congress..

Before which courts is Perry Morrison admitted to practice?

Perry Morrison is admitted to practice before the NC Supreme Court, all NC state courts, the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of North Carolina. Morrison has been a member of the NC State Bar since 1989.

What is the NC Industrial Commission, and how does it handle workers’ comp claims?

The NC Industrial Commission is the state agency that administers North Carolina’s workers’ compensation system under Chapter 97 of the NC General Statutes. The Commission assigns deputy commissioners to hear disputed claims, review medical evidence, and issue compensation orders binding on employers and insurance carriers.

Can I receive both workers’ comp and Social Security Disability in NC at the same time?

A North Carolina worker can receive both workers’ compensation and Social Security Disability simultaneously, subject to the federal offset rule. Combined benefits cannot exceed 80% of the worker’s pre-disability average monthly earnings. Morrison advises clients on claim sequencing to protect the maximum total benefit.  An injured worker receiving Social Security Disability should absolutely contact a lawyer prior to settling his Workers Compensation claim.

What should I do immediately after a work injury in North Carolina?

An injured worker in North Carolina should report the injury to the employer in writing on the same day, seek treatment from an authorized physician, and contact Morrison Law Firm at 252-243-1003 before giving any statement to the employer’s insurance carrier.
